service user volunteer programme

Encouraging service users to volunteer for the project utilises their skills and builds their confidence. Within our day centre we encourage service users to lead parts of the project, for example, running the kitchen for one day per week, learning how to cook a nutritious meal on a budget, learning about food hygiene and health and safety. This could also lead to qualifications in food hygiene, health and safety or other areas of interest.

A word from Martin

"My name is Martin. I first moved to Scunthorpe a couple of years ago and I heard about the Forge Project. The first time I went I felt embarrassed at first but found the people there very welcoming and helpful in many ways. I also at times found myself being sanctioned on my benefits for months and if it wasn’t for there being such a place as the Forge I would of gone hungry many a time. I honestly feel that the staff and volunteers there are diamonds. I sometimes volunteer cleaning up and helping in the kitchen, preparing and serving meals to show my appreciation. I find it really helps my mental health a lot keeping busy".

Attendees of the ten week Volunteer Training Programme at the Forge Project, celebrating together completing the course and receiving their certificates. The Forge Project held two ten week Volunteer Training Programmes. This was funded by the Community First Foundation and covered all aspects of volunteering.
